Design, innovation, imagination, ingenuity, audacity, here are the characteristics of the projects presented, leaving some little line BEDesign , I wanted to let you know the winner of this year.

” Airdrop, inspired by the drought and beetles in the desert “, a nice topic for this invention designed by the Australian Edward Linacre .

A simple goal: to turn air into water! (Uptake of moisture from the air, even in the driest regions to transmit to the vegetation and plantation agriculture optimizing previously impossible.)

The concept of the competition:

” The James Dyson Award is run by the James Dyson Foundation, which aims to support the creation, industrial design and innovation culture. The James Dyson Foundation supports schools and universities in England and abroad.

The James Dyson Award is an international competition open to students in engineering and design as well as young designers and engineers have graduated within four years, studying or have studied in Autralia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Spain, USA, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Ireland, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Russia, Singapore, Switzerland and United Kingdom.

Dyson is currently doubling its workforce in R & D. Many of the winners and challengers who have subsequently applied to Dyson and working there today.

The winner of the international James Dyson Award winning 10,000 pounds to help him develop his project. Her school will receive the same amount. The two challengers will receive more than 2000 pounds each. ”

Set of overlapping, intertwining, shadow and light, each provision will create an original piece at a time and only around a know-how: thermoforming.

A few words of the designer:

” This project is part of a broader research context, which places the subject, the artisan and his skill at the heart of the creative process. The glass plate colored stained glass raw material, bends around a tube under the influence of the heat of the oven. Without any other intervention, the windows are recomposed initially flat volumes explode, leaving their rich colors. ”

The American designer Peter Bristol , a regular on design works returns to present his concept called American Standard Lamp A cube, a light source, a function strip, a switch … What could be simpler?

A reinterpretation, or rather re-use of construction elements American standards. The look “cheap” items used (taken, switch) in contrast to the minimalism of the set, here they are well ahead, especially when the lamp is on.

What do you think? Do you see a cube of light, or anything else?

A word from the designer:

” For Better or Worse, construction materials, methods, and dimensions are quite homogenized in the United States. From the 2 × 4 wall studs to the cheap light switches, It Seems That When building a wall, location is really the only decision left to make.

The Relationship Between utilitarian thesis standard materials, dimensions, and parts together to create edible a modern icon That Is hidden in plain sight. By Deriving icts character Directly From this set of rules, the American Standard Lamp’s is familiar and intuitive Instantly to use (for People Living Among thesis standards).

Flipping on the American Standards as routine IS Lamp as unlocking the door. The diffused light and lamp Creates Provides extra power outlet available year. ”

Peter Bristol of BEDesign is also: the dresser Training Dresser , chair Chair Cut …

” The project is initiated by the DARPA (agency of the Department of Defense) and the material was developed by the University of California located at Irvine, the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and HRL Laboratories.

Its structure consists of tubes 100 nanometers thick nickel-phosphorus interconnected to each other in the lattice. This structure, however, that occupies 0.01% of the material.

Mainly composed of air, it can be compressed to 50% of its size and return to its original size after that.

It could be used to make electrodes of batteries but also has applications to absorb vibration as sound. ”

Not without reminding us of the work of Philippe Malouin.

Applications other than for the electrodes of batteries to imagine?

Available with a mini antenna wifi allowing you to easily connect your computer, hi or smartphone!

Three questions asked by the studio, as a guideline for this project:

” People want music to sound good. How Can We let the music equipment blend in nicely, while still proudly Be Perceived as high tech?

These Days Many people keep music in different digital places. How Can We allow people to play it Without hassle or wires everywhere?

Electronic waste Is A Huge Environmental Problems. How Can We Design Something That Does not add to landfill That huge?
How we Designed it for people. ”

A sauce Ikea , normal for Swedish speaker comes in its box and it is up to you to!

Small reserve of sound quality, to check.

Olivier Kuntzel and Florence Deygas, based on the side of Paris offers us their latest creation called MinuSkull, a powered speaker announced high fidelity.

A mix of form and pattern suggestive of skull and a minimalist composition of the whole.

The word of the creators: “As surrounded by music and sound, we wanted to be involved in the sensory world with something that is not neutral, combining sound quality and original form.

We were expecting a speaker other than a beautiful object even high quality industrial, sound often formatted. We wanted a sound for us and each component is selected or developed MinuSkull custom.

We have more than a year to refine the project, accompanied by a team of independent experts, themselves creators of technology. Constraints related to technology were not an obstacle to the visual creation. The shape, the proportion of Skull is precisely under such constraints, and not vice versa. ”

The enclosure is also environmentally friendly, because the membranes of the speakers are in pulp of banana leaf, all handmade in Japan. The case is walnut and / or painted for a perfect finish.
